The Philadelphia Flyers gutted out a game 7, overtime, win on the road against the Caps, and spared themselves the task of explaining how they blew a 3-1 lead. Each club answered the other for each score with the Flyers finally breaking through at 6:06 in OT in an absolute thriller. The Caps just got a bad draw for being a number 3 seed, and were not rewarded for their work all year.
In the other game 7 the Sharks spared themselves the task of explaining how they lost a 2-7 match-up with a dominating 2nd period en route to a 5-3 win. The series held form as no team won two consecutive game and was much more competitive than anyone would have expected. The team that many expect to hoist Lord Stanley’s trophy better pick things up against Dallas or they will explaining how they lost.
If there were any hopes that the Boston Bruins were going to be able to pull off an enormous upset and take game 7 on the road, Montreal crushed them early and then crused to a 5-0 game seven victory. The Bruins inability to convert penalty opportunities just killed them in this one, going 0 for 6. Meanwhile there are two other game-7’s on Tuesday night as the Caps and Flyers collide in the Nation’s Capital, and the Sharks and Flames drop the puck in No Cal. Philly going in as the 6 seed was an unlucky break for Washington, and they had to know they would be in for a dog fight but Calgary giving the 2-seed Sharks (many’s pick to win the whole thing) such a struggle comes as huge surprise. Can either road team come away with an upset? Let us know here or in the game chat rooms.
