Pens hold serve and now the finals begin

On previous post we mentioned that this series, perhaps more than others would follow the golden rule of officially not beginning until the home team lost or there was a game 7, well, game on! Also noted was that Pittsburgh needed to get some firepower from somewhere other than Crosby and Malkin, which they did as it was the line of Kennedy and Staal that did the damage, spotting the Pens a 2-0 lead which they held on to despite serving up two power plays in the third period. Pittsburgh gutted out a 2-1 win and sent Lord Stanley’s cup to Detroit where it will be handed out Friday, one way or another. One rumor that was disproved was that the Wings are running out of gas as they pummeled the Pens in the 3rd period getting twice as many shots on goal. It Fleury was after redemption after being taken to the woodshed in game 5, he got it stopping 26 of 27 Red Wing shots and almost single handedly keeping hope alive. So now the series can start as a home team has not lost, but we’ve hit the wall that is game 7. The Motor City will be rockin’ as this will be as good as it gets. This is a night where the stars are supposed to shine so whose will shine brighter? Let us know here and in the NHL chat rooms.

i give full cred to det... they are a credit to hockey, always have been... not many teams can do what they do... have all the people get hurt and still win they way they do... but the pens are fighting hard and making it go 7 you can't take that away from them.

crosby is player z, lidstrom and rafalski...probably the best defensive unit in the NHL...i wouldnt call the pens d the best in the NHL and hossa is an elite player...so yes he has not contributed hardly anything...he contributed more with the pens b/c crosby was feeding him passes...so i would argue he has been good def like you said...but he isnt producing at the level detroit expected when they paid more than 7 mil for him in the offseason

hey Wings fans do any of you wish to claim Crosby will never win as a fan ? he was found wondering aimlessly along 376 East. mumbling something about if he only had a brain. or something like that.
Quit drinking and go to bed

While I disagree that the 'pens dominated', I do think the Wings played poorly this game, and they were by far the worse team. Whether or not that had anything to do with Pitt causing that, I can't tell - it was probably a little bit of both. Ozzy let in a bad goal (the first on an awful rebound), and then the second I still don't know how it went in, seemed kinda strange to me.
I'm incredibly disappointed with the lack of effort from the Wings tonight... I just kept watching, waiting for them to actually play like they wanted to win, as opposed to playing just to stay close. Besides a few minutes in the third period, the Wings played very poorly. Sure they did well in the defensive zone for the most part, clearing pucks and what-not, but that's about all they did well. They were out hustled and simply didn't care.
That said, I kinda figured it would go to 7 and I still think the Wings will take it. They'll wake up and bring their best - but so will the Pens. Should be a fun one to watch... man I don't know if I can handle the stress :P I just wish the Wings would've won in 6 so I could have shaved...
Pens dominated for two periods, but the Wings won the third

The wings fans didn't give us a chance after games 1 and 2. Some where even talking aboiut bringing out the broom ! Then again how they were gonna take it tonight. Well, I'd be a little disappointed if we don't win but it has been a great series ! We have improved, and with the nucleous of the team being 20,21, 22 and 24, we are looking pretty good. Here's hoping for a repeat of game 5 last year ! Go Pens !!!!!

I'm not a Pens fan, but I'd say they are pretty much in the same class. I really don't feel like going into detail here

If scores is how you decide if a game is close or not...Well, I have seen a lot of 1-0, 2-1 even 3-1 games that wasn't close at all. The pens dominated this game with their play! I can't think of anything good that came out of this game for the Wings.

Wings fans don't be mad you guys couldn't close it out... and you are gonna try and tell me that 50% of det fans are not banwagonners, every team has that... and besides marc-andre, Tom Barrasso is my fav pen... always been my team... a player plays for them for ever... then when they are in trouble buys them to help them... can't get better than that...

i love how everyone is bashing Hossa for not contributing..if you look at the stats
Hossa- 0 G, 3 A=3 points +/- = +1
Crosby-1 G, 2 A=3 points +/- = -3
So does this mean if Pittsburgh wins Crosby shouldn't get his name on the Cup?!
Hossa has done just as much if not more than everyone on the Pens have done for thier team..Maybe if the Pens win, (which won't happen) Malkin should be the only player with his name on the Cup!! Maybe the backup for Pittsburgh too since his GAA is 0..How about that?!

there is a reason they call Detroit "Hockeytown." I'll give you a hint, it has more do to with the 4 cups in the past 11 years than the bandwagon fans...how many cups does Pittsburgh have in the past 11 years?
Answer, not too many but we have several championships in this town and our other teams don't go 0 and 16. LMAO
